As the times continue to change and technology advances, that is going to bring about changes in the system. With that being said, Walt Disney World is about to update their Rider Switch (Rider Swap) Service to make it entirely digital and it’s actually going to alter things quite a bit.
As we’ve seen with the My Disney Experience website and app, virtually everything has gone digital from FastPass+ reservations, the DAS system, and much more. Now, the Rider Switch Service is also going digital and will be doing so…very soon.
Along with the digital implementation, there will also be a few changes happening and altering the way the service works. These changes could also help cut down on any abuse of the system.
Expected changes to Rider Switch/Swap:
- It will be done entirely digitally
- The entire participating party (party of three) will need to be present to receive a Rider Switch as all MagicBands/park tickets will be scanned – Whether there is a limit or not remains to be seen
- Rider Switch passes will be valid for one-hour return windows (Note: This time may change by the time it goes active, but it would still be for the day of and not a month.)
- Only one Rider Switch return time can be held at a time – The system will not allow Cast Members to distribute a second until the first has been used, cancelled, or time has passed.
All paper forms of Rider Switch passes will be going away entirely and not accepted after this new system begins. Cast Members have been advised to deny them if presented.
These changes to the Rider Switch/Swap Service are set to begin at Walt Disney World on or around June 19, 2018.
Until Disney has this officially go into place, nothing is set in stone and anything is subject to change.
