This weekend, the Star Wars Celebration Chicago is taking place and there is so much going on regarding movies, merchandise, and more. On Saturday, there was a live-stream which detailed news on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and here is everything we learned.
– The Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge will have things from “all timelines” in the Star Wars saga.
– Everything in Galaxy’s Edge is “in universe.” That means that guests will buy merchandise that isn’t representing Galaxy’s Edge but items that would be actually used in the Star Wars universe.
– An immersive experience that will include guests using your phone, MagicBands, and other items.
After some initial info was revealed, the Galaxy’s Edge panel officially began with Josh Gad as the host. This panel is dedicated to all things Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and features Chris Beatty, Asa Kalama, Margaret Kerrison and Scott Trowbridge from Walt Disney Imagineering and Doug Chiang and Matt Martin from Lucasfilm.
Here is all of the great information shared:
– Batuu is a land that has “fallen in prominence, and it is now a place where you can find all of the people who don’t want to be found. Basically, all of the interesting people,” said Trowbridge.
– There will be shopping, dining, attractions, and so much more in the land.
– Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the “biggest attraction” that Disney has ever built. Guests will come face-to-face with Kylo Ren, Rey, Finn, Poe, and BB-8 among many others.
– Rise of the Resistance is still set to open after the opening of Galaxy’s Edge, but nothing more given other than “later this year.”
– Disney Imagineering worked closely with Lucasfilm to make sure that the backstories of Black Spire Outpost and Batuu are true to the feeling of the Star Wars universe. Batuu will not be just about one character, but about you – the guest – and what they experience while in it.
– A look was given at the Dok-Ondar audio-animatronic that will control a merchandise shop full of Easter Eggs in Galaxy’s Edge.
– Guests will be able to buy their own lightsaber or even build their own one-of-a-kind customizable lightsabers in Galaxy’s Edge.
– There will be blue milk as well as green milk along with a lot of other food and beverage.
– Even the Earth drinks, such as Coca-Cola, won’t be normal in Galaxy’s Edge as the bottles will be themed in look and wording to match the Star Wars saga. Yes, they are written in Aurabesh.
– More revealed on how everyone on the flight crew team when experiencing Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run will have a role in piloting a successful flight. Depending on how your flight goes, your exit walk may look fantastic or all beat up.
– Jim Cummings is doing the voice of Hondo in Smuggler’s Run.
– Fans will also notice the voice of Rex will once again be Paul Reubens.
– Nien Nunb is also going to be in Galaxy’s Edge and will have his original voice as Bill Kipsang Rotich is back.
– YODA will be seen in Galaxy’s Edge and Frank Oz will indeed voice him.
– John Williams has composed a lot of new music for Galaxy’s Edge.
– The Play Disney Parks app will have a Star Wars data pad which will be turned into your control panel to unlock even more storytelling in Galaxy’s Edge. Yes, it will include a translation device for Aurabesh.
