The first sailing of the reimagined Disney Magic took place this past week, and I was fortunate enough to be on board for my ninth overall Disney Cruise Line trip, but my first aboard this particular ship. It was a great experience and one that won’t ever be forgotten for a number of reasons, but mostly for getting to meet President of Disney Parks and Resorts, Tom Staggs.
Upon entering the Disney Magic, the changes were already obvious, but front and center was Tom Staggs, President of Disney Cruise Lines Karl Holz, and Senior Vice President of Disney Cruise Line Operations Anthony Connelly.
There they stood welcoming guests on board, and it was my privilege to shake hands with them all.
Later on during the short two-night cruise aboard the reimagined Disney Magic, I actually got the chance to speak with Staggs one-on-one. I asked him about any updates that could be made to the Disney Wonder and when that might happen:
“What we’re going to do is assess what we’ve done here and see how it is all received. We’re going to see what we’ve done right and look to recreate it on the Disney Wonder, but still in a brand new way. We are not going to do the exact same thing.”
Obviously, I asked when that was going to happen.
“First off is enjoying the Disney Magic, but we’re looking at updating the Disney Wonder within the next 2-3 years.”
As expected, the Disney Wonder will be getting a makeover, but it’s not going to be next year or anytime in the immediate future. It was an honor to speak with Tom Staggs and be able to discuss this and other things with him.
