Today, April 28, 2014, is the first day that guests can take advantage of more than three FASTPass+ selections and also utilize park hopping with it as well. Doctor Disney headed over to the Disney Parks today and used the new system first-hand, and I’ve got a full review regarding how it works and everything learned while experiencing it as well.
Please…please be aware that the entire MyMagic+ system is still going through testing. Things are going to change and things will be altered or tweaked and problems will be corrected. All of the information below is how the current system works and how it is going to work for the immediate future.
With that out of the way, I’m going to now reveal to you my experiences of the changes to the FASTPass+ system and all that I know.
You will make your first three FASTPass+ selections via your My Disney Experience app or the Disney website or a park kiosk. Those three selections must be all in one park.
Once you use your first three selections, you have two options:
A.) You can stay in the same park you are in and visit a FASTPass+ kiosk or see a MyMagic+ Cast Member to book a fourth selection.
B.) You can park hop (with valid park hopping admission ticket) and visit a FASTPass+ kiosk or see a MyMagic+ Cast Member to book a fourth selection.
After using that fourth selection, you can select a fifth FASTPass selection with the same options above and then a sixth and a seventh and so on.
Here is a FAQ to answer many questions of which I found answers for today:
Do my first three FASTPass+ have to be in one park?
Yes, they must all be in one park.
Once I use my first three selections, how do I make my fourth, fifth, and so on FASTPass+ selections?
You must visit a park kiosk or MyMagic+ Cast Member. At this time, you do not have the ability to create additional FASTPass+ selections. After the first three, you cannot use My Disney Experience to create additional selections, but you can use it to alter the experience (attraction) and time.
Can I visit a kiosk at Magic Kingdom to make my extra FASTPass+ selections for Epcot?
No. Extra FASTPass+ selections can only be made at the kiosks or by a MyMagic+ Cast Member at the park you are in: Magic Kingdom in Magic Kingdom, Epcot in Epcot, and so on.
Can I get a FASTPass+ for the same attraction I rode earlier in the day?
Yes, you are able to do just that. With your first three selections, you must choose three different experiences, but you can select one of those same choices for your extra selections later in the day. This includes choosing top tier attractions such as at Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
When can I make my additional (fourth, etc.) FASTPass+ selections or choices for other parks?
Well, that is where things get a little confusing and strange. Here are the requirements for making additional FASTPass+ selections or park hopping with them:
- You must make three original FASTPass+ selections in one park
- You can park hop and make selections or make a fourth choice after your first three selections have been used, have been canceled, or have expired (time frame has passed).
For example, a glitch this morning only allowed Doctor Disney to schedule two original selections. Upon using the choices, I went onto My Disney Experience to book a third, but it wasn’t possible. Cast Members advised me that a third choice would need to be made by them or a park kiosk since it was not part of my original selections.
In a nutshell, anything outside or past the original selections threshold (one, two, or three FASTPass+ choices) must be made at a kiosk or by a CM, and can’t be made on My Disney Experience. That includes fourth, fifth, sixth selections and so on.
What about if my FASTPass+ times or late or I have one for Wishes or Illuminations or another late night event? Can I still make a fourth FASTPass+?
You can make a fourth selection, but you would still have to wait until your first selections are done. If you choose Wishes at Magic Kingdom as one of your original three selections, then you cannot choose a fourth choice until that selection has been used or the time has passed.
Am I able to change my additional (fourth and beyond) FASTPass+ selections using My Disney Experience?
Yes, you are, but it must originally be made at a park kiosk or by a Cast Member. From there, the new selection will show up in your My Disney Experience account (computer or app), and you can cancel the selection, alter the time, and even alter the experience/attraction. Again though, you will not be able to change the experience to an attraction at another park. That must be done at a kiosk inside each particular park.
——————————————————————
Currently, this is all in a testing phase and the ultimate goal is for guests to be able to make their additional FASTPass+ selections on their own via the My Disney Experience app.
Please see any Cast Members at FASTPass+ kiosk locations if there is any confusion or problems arise.
This is great! Now we can make some FP+ reservations for Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror and Star Tours for the morning and after those get a Rock n Roller Coast FP+ (because probably most people will have selected their top tier to be Toy Story Mania and that one will be done for the day!)
My wife and I went in February (keep in mind this is OFF season) and the new FastPass+ system was being rolled out. Bottom line…it’s TERRIBLE! I’ve been to Disney 20+ times, but it was SO BAD I postponed the trip with the entire family until maybe next year (hoping it will get better)!
You only get 3 FastPasses per day/park and you choose from two different groups of attractions, basically one from the really good attractions (ie: Soarin, Test Track, Norway, etc.) and two from a group of attractions you never needed FastPasses for (ie: Imagination, Spaceship Earth, Nemo, etc.). It created MUCH longer lines and wait time at rides you would never have needed FastPasses for and all but made us skip rides we would have been able to do with a traditional FastPass because the lines were too long.
This new system was put in place to “reward” those that stay on Disney property by allowing them to book their FastPasses months in advance. Disney claims this will enhance the park experience…sounds good, but the only thing they’re trying to enhance, is their bottom line.
Theoretically, my family stay offsite and pay FULL price for park admission, but we could be locked out of an attraction because the guests staying onsite might have booked all the FastPasses for that attraction. How is this fair???? How is my dollar worth less? Since I saved money by staying offsite, chances are I’ll spend more in the parks…duh!
You will and SHOULD lose lots of loyal fans if greed gets the better of you. I guarantee Walt would have fired the people that came up with this debacle!
I hope Disney changes this, but if not…
