On Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, guests had to be evacuated from Mickey’s Fun Wheel (Ferris Wheel) at Disney California Adventure park. Guests were stuck for more than two hours before being evacuated.
The situation was first reported around 5:18 p.m. local time and tweets started being sent out. Guest Eric Thiessen posted “Been stuck on California adventure Ferris wheel for 1.25hrs. AMA. #disney #heatstroke #californiaadventure #disneyland”
Around 30 passengers had to be evacuated from the ferris wheel in total after it was experiencing “technical difficulties”.
It was around 6:00 p.m. that the very last guest was evacuated from the 150-foot-high ferris wheel. No injuries were reported.
In a written statement, the park said, “We are working to evacuate our guests as soon as possible. The safety of our Guests and Cast Members is our highest priority.”
Numerous other tweets and comments spoke of how hot it was while being stuck.
Riders, like Anthony Sanchez, were stranded for more than two hours.
“It was definitely hot up there. First 45 minutes was, we had no communication of what was happening. We could hear someone saying, ‘Thanks for your patience.’ We didn’t know what was happening,” he told KCAL9’s Michele Gile.
