We’ve heard the rumors and reports and everything else for months and even over a year, but now there is confirmation. Disney has announced that both Soarin’ at Epcot and Toy Story Mania at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are expanding.
Per the Disney Parks Blog:
One of the things we’ve heard from our guests is that a visit to Walt Disney World Resort just isn’t complete without enjoying the spectacular views at Soarin’ in Epcot or a spin through Toy Story Mania! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Well, I’m excited to share that we are expanding both attractions by adding another theater at Soarin’ and more midway track at Toy Story Mania! We’ll also be updating the screens and projection system at Soarin,’ bringing a visually enhanced experience.
The expansions of both Soarin’ and Toy Story Mania are expected to be complete by late 2016, but there is no official date in place as to when they will officially open.
Things could always change, but from what I’ve been told along the way from sources…the attractions will not be closing since they’re not refurbishments, but expansions.
For Toy Story Mania, it’s an extra track. For Soarin’, it’s an extra theater. Both attractions are expected to remain open. Soarin’ may temporarily close when the updated screens and projection systems are put in, but that remains to be seen.
Check out some more info on the reports of both the Soarin’ and Toy Story Mania expansions that have come about in the last year:
- Soarin’ expansion moving forward for third theater
- Permits filed for Soundstage One at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for possible Toy Story Mania expansion
- Helicopter spotted around WDW to film new movie for Soarin’

What about the rumors of a new film, celebrating WDW and/or Florida? Is there anything true that a new film coming? I ALWAYS LOVE and enjoy Soarin’. But while the California views are great and the sensory enhancements adds more to the experience, I was eager to see a Florida version and the many possibilities that wouls come with it. Here’s hoping…!
Now California Adventure, please! I read this headline with excitement only to then see WDW. The wait times are SO long for the DCA version, but it’s so worth it. Shorter wait times and we’d spend half our day there.
