On Wednesday, February 29, 2012, the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts decided to give even more to their guests with “One More Disney Day.” Both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom stayed open for 24 hours as they opened up at 6AM on Leap Day and shut their gates at 6AM the next morning on March 1, 2012.
And Doctor Disney was there in the Magic Kingdom from start to finish.
Upon arriving, the crowds out front were quite insane even though it wouldn’t seem that bad once thinking about how many people were there in respect to the size of the Magic Kingdom. Annual Passholders got to enter the turnstiles a little early and were given a special set of Mouse ears for the event as well as a commemorative pin. Once it hit 6AM though, any leftover pins were handed out to the rest of the guests.
That was when things got rather messy though.
Once the morning welcome show went off and the clock struck six, guests headed in and about ninety percent of them headed straight for the Emporium on Main Street for all of the merchandise. Mind you there wasn’t a lot as shirts, Mickey ears, a watch, and a sweatshirt were made available for this special occasion but that was about it.
Still, it was what people wanted and it was reminiscent of Christmas time in the Magic Kingdom because all lines were incredibly long and people were buying things by the dozen. Not even an hour after the park had opened and already the merchandise was on eBay.
From there though it turned into a marathon of rides, shows, characters, walking around, dining, dancing, pictures, and so much more. The day and night were overly enjoyable including characters that you don’t normally see like Phineas, Ferb, and the ever awesome Captain Jack Sparrow himself.
Check out the galleries below that have shots of the attractions enjoyed during the day, the dance party, characters, and the beautiful Cinderella Castle in a wide array of colors.
