The announcement came the other day that Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa would undergo a lot of closures on shops, restaurants, and the main pool through the rest of 2012 for refurbishment. Some of the details weren’t all there and some questions were left proposed such as: Where would guests eat quick service food and refill their mugs with the Gasparilla Grill closed down from August through December?
Well, here is what I found out.
The Gasparilla Grill will close down for refurb on August 24, 2012 and is scheduled to reopen on December 17, 2012 – give or take a day, of course. The Mousketeer Club will close down for good and is likely going to become the area where the new arcade will now be. This extra room will allow for the Gasparilla Grill to expand and become much bigger, which it desperately needs to be.
During the long shutdown for refurbishment, a “Grab and Go” with mug-filling stations will be located on the second floor of the main building in Mizner’s Lounge, which is currently under refurbishment and scheduled to reopen soon. It is located behind the live band across from the Monorail Station.
The Sandy Cove Gift and Sundry Shop located on the first floor of the Grand Floridian main building will be closed on August 21, 2012 until mid-December as it is also being expanded.
The need for expansion comes from the new Disney Vacation Club Villas being constructed and Sandy Cove will soon offer groceries as well.
