Anyone that follows along with Doctor Disney knows that he is someone that loves the original and old school days of Walt Disney World. The retro happenings of Disney with old maps, rides that are long gone, and the characters that used to walk around with gigantic heads. With that being said, let us please join in with the Disney Parks Blog in wishing what would be a 30th birthday for Journey into Imagination at Epcot Center.
On March 5, 1983, Figment and the Dreamfinder took flight in their beautiful zeppelin (which by the way, can still be seen somewhere in Epcot) for a journey into not my imagination, not your imagination, not their imagination, but just…imagination.
While the attraction has changed a lot over the years, it has also been transformed back to include a few of the original elements that Disney purists such as myself loved so many years ago.
A number of the Figment statues and animatronics are from the original version of the attraction. The Dreamfinder may not be anywhere to be seen, but he still has a prestigious position at the Imagination Institute…careful eyes can see which office belongs to him.
It is indeed a shame that the attraction had to change, but Epcot is the world of “tomorrow,” and therefore…change had to happen. Still, we can all honor the original Journey Into Imagination and Dreamworks by remembering it on this day.
