Doctor Disney Explains: The blue Cast Member name tags

While walking around Walt Disney World, the name tags of Cast Members can sometimes range in their appearance. Virtually all of them are the double-bubble white name tag, but some have an extra pin on them. You may see some pins signifying one year of service or five years or ten or even twenty…but, have you ever seen the blue name tags anywhere in the Disney Parks?

People have walked around with Doctor Disney through the parks, and they’ll sometimes see me go out of my way to congratulate a Cast Member that has a blue name tag on. The reason I do this is because they deserve a little big of a pat on the back for earning Disney’s “Legacy Award.” To me, this is the greatest recognition that a Cast Member can receive because it is bestowed upon them due to what their peers and co-workers think of them.

Legacy Award winners are selected by their supervisors, co-workers, and direct reports after constantly and consistently bringing the Disney dream to the forefront and always honoring it.

They are easy to pick out from normal Disney name tags because they are essentially the opposite of the normal ones. Instead of white with blue writing, these are blue with white writing. A silver pin sits in the double bubble on top and it shows Sorcerer Mickey with the word “LEGACY” underneath him.

It’s one thing to stay with a company for a long time, and Disney honors those Cast Members as well. The Steamboat Willie pin or Donald pin or even the Partners Statue pin is a great honor to receive, but to be given recognition thanks to your coworkers believing in you and respecting you? Now, that is something that is not easy to achieve and should be something that receives a form of congratulations every time.

Remember this little tidbit the next time you’re in the parks, and don’t forget to congratulate people like Rudy and so many others.

  1. Yes, I would like to nominate Laurie Fox who works in the Magic Kingdom as a VIP Tour Guide. Laurie has been a faithful and bubbly employee for 28yrs. When she has to work at the Town Hall, mostly dealing with guests, she is always respectful no matter how rude and or angry the guest may be. I have seen her go out of her way to help a guest get to a certain ride or area. She ALWAYS has a beautiful smile and a kind word for everyone. VIP`s often ask for Laurie specifically to be their guide through the park. When you say Disney World, LAURIE should be right next to it. She is the absolute epitome of the kind of people Disney wants to represent their wonderful park. Sincerely, Ellen J Sintay

  2. The Steamboat Willie pin, Donald, Pluto, Castle etc are all service pins that are given to castmembers for their anniversaries. The Partners In Excellence pin is the pin that preceded the Legacy pin and were awarded to CM’s for the same reason that Legacy awards are given now. Legacy is consistent with all the Disney parks while Partners was specifically WDW. It is appropriate to congratulate castmembers that you see wearing the Partners pin as well.
