Having just recently come off of my seventh trip aboard the Disney Cruise Line, there have been a lot of questions coming my way. One of the biggest things that people want to know about is how they should go about “tipping” on Disney Cruise Line ships, and how it should be done. So, it is necessary that those that have never been on a DCL trip or those that just don’t understand it, to get it.
That is why Doctor Disney is here and is going to explain all about gratuities aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships.
First off, let it be known that Disney doesn’t want anyone to be bothered with cash in any way while on their cruise. Guests will simply use their Disney key cards for all purchases and settle things with a credit card they put on file or cash after the cruise is over.
This is where things may get confusing for everyone because they don’t understand how tips are paid out.
Tips on the Disney Cruise Line are going to be paid out to four people, at the very least and they are:
- Dining Room Server
- Dining Room Assistant Server
- Dining Room Head Server
- Stateroom Host/Hostess
Those four Cast Members will be with you for the entire trip. The servers will be your same servers throughout the length of the cruise. For those Cast Members, some set gratuities are already set in place:
Per Guest per cruise | 3-Night | 4-Night | 7-Night |
---|---|---|---|
Dining Room Server | $12.00 | $16.00 | $28.00 |
Dining Room Asst. Server | $9.00 | $12.00 | $21.00 |
Dining Room Head Server | $3.00 | $4.00 | $7.00 |
Stateroom Host/ Hostess |
$12.00 | $16.00 | $28.00 |
Gratuity for dining room servers, Palo or Remy servers, Senses Salon Cast Members, or anything else will be at your discretion.
Again though, you won’t be paying them in cash during any point in your cruise. You will be signing off tips on your receipts that are given to you, and the payments will be taken once the cruise is over.
Let it be known that these are the gratuities suggested per Disney Cruise Line. Guests will receive tip papers in their room on the last full day of their cruise, and they will be delivered by your Stateroom Host or Hostess. From that point, the tip sheets can be broken down and placed into envelopes for each of the four Cast Members.
If guests feel there should be any difference (higher or lower) in those set gratuities, they can visit the Guest Services desk on Deck 3 of all Disney Cruise Line ships.
Remember, these Cast Members are working pretty much around the clock, and some are working seven days a week. If you’re ever thinking of lowering their tips, make sure it is for a very valid reason.
