Remake of ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ officially dead in the water

A remake of the famed Disney classic “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” has been in the works for a few years now, and David Fincher was even set to direct it. Sadly, things look to be – pardon the pun – dead in the water.

So far, these things have gone down:

  • No release date
  • Put on hold
  • Financial troubles
  • The Australian government said they would give financial backing
  • Script rewrite
  • Casting disagreements
  • Scheduling conflicts

Fincher has moved onto working on his next film, and word has come that the project is just dead. If they want to get “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” going again, Disney is going to have to find another director and everything.

Even with all the troubles that this project went through…you can bet your wallet that the lack of everything that “The Lone Ranger” brought in also had something to do with this.
