Severe storms have moved through the Walt Disney World parks areas in the evenings of the whole past week. Bright and close lightning. Incredibly loud thunder. Horrific downpours. Well, it got to its worst point on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013.
Multiple reports were coming in from all across Disney Property, and it even included a report that a Disney Monorail heading to the Transportation & Ticket Center from Epcot was stuck after lightning struck the beam. Remember all the issues with the Yellow Monorail a week ago?
Well, Doctor Disney reader Christa said:
Friend of mine is on a monorail coming from Epcot to TTC. The track was struck by lightening and there is no power. They have been stuck for almost a half an hour.
An update from Christa also said that they were stuck for a full 45 minutes before they finally reached TTC and exited the Monorail safely.
Reports of power outages from Magic Kingdom included that some rides were down and even had to be evacuated, including Pirates of the Caribbean.
Reports of lights flickering around the Walt Disney World Resort included:
- Saratoga Springs
- Animal Kingdom Lodge
- Port Orleans Riverside
- Caribbean Beach
- Contemporary Resort
- Polynesian Resort
Be careful if you’re out at the parks and please prepare for any weather if you’re visiting now or soon. The weather in Orlando can alter greatly in mere hours or even minutes so always be on the watch of how it may turn out.
Also Yacht & Beach club was affected as they had no phones, Internet or AC due to the lightning. Boardwalk was affected even more so and we believe they received a direct hit.
