Six-year-old girl falls from third floor balcony at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas

Girl balcony Jambo House DisneyA six-year-old girl was vacationing with her family at the Walt Disney World Resort and suffered a horrific tragedy as she fell from a third-story balcony at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas. The Orlando Sentinel reports that the incident happened around 6:54 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013.

The family from New York did not have their identity released.

The report says the girl was with her family in Jambo House at the DAK Lodge when she fell. Pics were provided to the Orlando Sentinel, but not published, and they showed giraffes and other animals nearby as paramedics attended to the little girl laying on the ground outside the resort.

A security officer said the father of the girl said he was in the shower when he heard his wife scream. He ran out the room, down the stairs, and jumped a wall to get to his daughter as she was being worked on.

Disney Cast Members were on the scene first and said the little girl was indeed responsive and had a small cut above her left eye. She ended up being airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center and then treated at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

She is said to be in stable condition at this time.

She fell into an area where animals do not have access.

Orange County authorities say that the little girl’s fall appears to have been accidental. The family is cooperating fully with them and Disney.

On Tuesday, Disney spokeswoman Kathleen Prihoda said, “Our primary concern is for the child’s health and recovery. A Disney representative is with the family providing support.”

  1. The term “horrific tragedy” in the first sentence of this article makes it sounds like the little girl was killed. I had to read down to the fifth paragraph to find out that she was probably going to be ok. Was the object of this story to stir up drama, rather than just report the facts??

    • No, the object of the story is to report the facts. Which are all reported in the story. I honestly believe that a child falling from a third-floor balcony is a horrific tragedy. How is this trying to cause drama? Sorry, if you don’t care for my choice of words, but that was my personal feeling on the incident then followed by every fact of the story.
