Disney introduces Second Screen Live for showings of ‘The Little Mermaid’

Littler Mermaid Second Screen LiveDisney Pictures is going to be releasing “The Little Mermaid” in select theaters for very select showings, and it is going to be with an experience that those attending will never forget. It’s called “Second Screen Live” and it is going to thrill some people and completely annoy others like nothing else imaginable.

“Second Screen Live” is a new app that Disney will have go live for the special showings happening on Sept. 13, 2013.

Disney is encouraging viewers to bring their iPads to the movie theaters to use the app while the film is playing. Yes, while the film is actually playing.

Tell me, do you want this going on while you’re watching a movie?

Little Mermaid Second Screen Live

This is how Disney describes it:

“Bring your iPad to the movie theater and experience special event screenings of “The Little Mermaid” on the big screen like never before! It’s “Disney Second Screen Live: The Little Mermaid,” where you become part of the story. Interact with Ariel, Sebastian and Flounder. Compete with the audience as you play games, sing-along, and collect hidden treasure. But watch out for Ursula, who just might try to steal your points. It just got better, down where it’s wetter, with “Disney Second Screen Live: The Little Mermaid.”

Disney and Apple have had a long-standing and close relationship, and that was shown back at the D23 Expo when Steve Jobs was honored as a Disney Legend. Disney CEO Bob Iger even holds a spot on Apple’s board, and in turn, Jobs was on Disney’s board of directors.

There will be separate showings at the select theaters for those that want to see it without the Second Screen Live, at least there is that choice for you to make.

“The Little Mermaid” will be released on Blu-ray on Oct. 1, 2013, and you can watch it from the comfort of your own home while only worrying about your own kids holding things in front of the screen.

Your best bet is to pre-order it from The Disney Store and get a free lithograph too:

Please could we never do anything that actually encourages people to light up devices while in a movie theater? It’s bad enough they think they should do it when specifically scolded not to.
