A long-time partnership has ended as the Walt Disney Co. has decided not renew its first-look deal with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. This over 20-year partnership is now coming to an end, but what does it mean for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise?
“Jerry is one of the most respected and prolific producers working in the motion picture industry, and we have had an incredibly successful collaboration over the past two decades and he is a friend to many of us here at Disney,” said Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn in a statement. “We will continue to work together in the future, and we look forward to seeing more of the films that have made Jerry Bruckheimer a Hollywood legend.”
For those not familiar with Bruckheimer…he has produced such films as “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Armageddon,” “The Rock,” “National Treasure,” and “Con Air.”
No big deal or anything.
Many have to believe that the box office failure known as “The Lone Ranger” helped lead to this decision. Disney said they are going to focus on films from Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel.
Just because the deal won’t be renewed with Jerry Bruckheimer, that doesn’t mean things will come to a screeching halt. Disney will continue working with Bruckheimer on “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” and others as well.
“I am very appreciative of the wonderful collaboration and support I have had at the Walt Disney Co. for over 20 years and the 27 movies we have made together,” said Bruckheimer. “The good news is we will continue working together on Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure and other projects we have developed together at the studio.”
Recently, “Pirates 5” was removed from Disney’s distribution schedule after being originally set for a release date of July 10, 2015.
