With confirmation and more news on AVATAR land heading to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for opening in 2017, there is a lot of space that is needed. One of those spaces would be that of the current Camp Minnie-Mickey.
The move for Festival of the Lion King to Africa is already in the works as a new location is being built near Kilimanjaro Safaris.
Camp Minnie-Mickey is located in the exact same area as the current FOTLK, and that space is needed as well. AVATAR land is set to take over that entire area so word is that Camp Minnie-Mickey will indeed be closing sometime in 2014.
Disney has not announced this yet so there is no specific date set.
Mickey and Minnie relocated to their new indoor meet-and-greet area in the Adventurers Outpost on Discovery Island just this summer. The rest of the characters, which are usually quite random, will be moved to other park locations.
