A full rollout for Disney’s MyMagic+ system was said to be coming at the end of the summer. Then, it was the end of the summer. After that, it was said to be coming by the first of the year for 2014. Now, it appears as if it has been delayed by a number of months again.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that the program has fallen behind schedule and it is believed to be “several more months” before all guests at Walt Disney World can use it.
This is not totally unexpected as Disney has been trying to give estimated dates of the full rollout so that guests can look forward to it, but everything has still been testing. These testing phases have been widening and ongoing, but always expected to be trial and error.
“From the outset, our MyMagic+ development has been focused on enhancing the experience our guests have with us. Our roll-out schedule is designed to be flexible so that we can make adjustments based on our testing and guest feedback,” Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs said in the statement. “We’re happy with the progress we are making, and MyMagic+ is now available to all our Walt Disney World hotel guests.”
Earlier this month, it was even said that MyMagic+ is “still very much in the early days of rollout.”
So, as of now, there is no set date for the full rollout of MyMagic+ for all Disney guests.
This could mean that it will happen early in 2014. It could mean that it happens by summer of 2014. It could mean that it doesn’t fully happen until 2015.
Sure, this is going to upset a large number of people stating they want to be a part of everything now, but personally, I think this is a great decision by Disney. It allows for more testing to be done and for things to be as close to perfected as possible by the time it is used by all.
There are a number of glitches and problems with the system – as is expected – and rolling it out before it is fully ready means more problems and for more people.
