Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Astro Orbiter to have long refurbishments in summer

Wedway refurbishmentSome big refurbishments are coming to the Magic Kingdom this summer, and they are going to take out the center portion of Tomorrowland.

The long-discussed refurbishment of Astro Orbiter will officially begin on May 3, 2014. Some rumors are that it will be closing to add in a wheelchair accessible rocket. That could be why it won’t reopen again through Aug. 20, 2014.

That’s right, it will be closed for the whole summer. The tentative reopening date is Aug. 21, 2014.

Beginning on the same day of May 3, 2014, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (Wedway) Peoplemover will also be closing for refurbishment. It will not be closed as long though and is tentatively scheduled to reopen on July 1, 2014.

There’s no word on what is being done to the TTA, but with Astro Orbiter being right above it…a lot of work and space may be needed while Disney works up there.

Not to mention, Wedway has been breaking down A LOT in the past year, and it could use a tune up so this is not a bad thing.
