We have all been wondering for months as to when the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will be opening in the Magic Kingdom. There have been all sorts of rumors and assumptions and wrong guesses, but let Doctor Disney fill you in on the latest to come his way.
Rumors went on about a mid-March opening and then early April and then Easter Sunday and now early May.
A soft opening was recently confirmed, but no date. A press/media preview will happen the last two days of April and the first two days of May. But what about for other guests or Annual Passholders?
Well, while seeing Anna and Elsa’s debut at the Magic Kingdom on Sunday, April 20, 2014, there were a number of Disney Managers and Imagineers around. So, I thought I’d snoop around and ask away. Asking a manager with a 5-year pin about the soft opening of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, she told me:
“Oh, that will be happening in late May. The grand opening is set for mid-June and definitely by the end of June.”
That was in the morning. Later in the day, I caught a group of five CMs – two Imagineers and three managers – and asked them the same question. One smiled and simply said, “Late Spring 2014” with a laugh. After speaking with them a while, an Imagineer looked at me and this conversation took place.
Imagineer: “You want to guess?”
Doctor Disney: “About the soft opening of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or the grand opening?”
Imagineer: “Both.”
Doctor Disney: “For soft opening, I say…around the 24-hour event.”
Imagineer: “(Smiling) A-hem….and the grand opening?”
Doctor Disney: “Possibly mid-June, but definitely open by end of June.”
Imagineer: “……(long pause)………….you come here a lot don’t you?”
Imagineer 2: “Well, we can’t actually say anything.”
Imagineer: “Not going to say you’re wrong a-hem, but (laughing)….so…you enjoyed Anna and Elsa‘s debut?”
I spoke with them a little while longer about Anna and Elsa‘s debut, and told them I’d see them later this month and then at the 24-hour event. They all smiled and the one Imagineer said, “You certainly seem like you’ll know before we do.”
Let it be known that there has been NO OFFICIAL opening date for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or a date released for the soft opening. The preceding information was obtained during a conversation with Disney Cast Members and Imagineers, but nothing has been confirmed or officially announced by Disney.
That’s too bad. I was planning a visit on May but I guess I will just cancel it….
You were planning a whole trip around the opening of the Mine Train?
