The first edition of Disney Secrets ended up being more of a success than I had anticipated, but really shouldn’t be surprised. Everyone always loves learning new things about the parks and reliving the Disney Secrets they’re already familiar with. With one edition down on the Magic Kingdom, it’s time to learn some new, or not so new, Disney Secrets about Epcot.
1.) The main environment of The Living Seas Pavilion measures out to be 203 feet in diameter and is 27 feet deep, holding 5.7 million gallons of water.
Spaceship Earth is 164 feet in diameter which means the giant sphere could fit in the huge aquarium and still have room to spare.
2.) Ever wonder why you go up to the second floor of the America Pavilion to then head into your seats for The American Adventure? It’s due to the fact that the audio-animatronics and their platforms rotate underneath your seats after taking their turn on stage.
3.) Each car on Test Track is powered by three on-board computers. When working together, the computers actually have more processing power than the space shuttle.
4.) There is indeed a trap door at the top of Spaceship Earth. It was used in the past, primarily for promotional reasons as Mickey Mouse would stand on top of the attraction (tethered, of course) and wave to the camera.
5.) The temple in the China Pavilion is not just designed to look authentic, but be as authentic as possible. It is acoustically perfect so if you stand in the center of the room and speak, it is designed to echo and amplify even some of the smallest whispers.
6.) Remember when Dream Finder was in Journey Into Imagination? Well, he’s not totally gone from Epcot. Head into MouseGear and look above your head because a large replica of Dream Finder’s zeppelin is sitting high above the floor in the wall.
7.) The Wonders of Life Pavilion used to be much more than a conference center or festival headquarters. It once held numerous attractions such as Body Wars, Cranium Command, Coach’s Corner, Goofy About Health, the Sensory Funhouse, and The Making of Me.
8.) When riding on the Living with The Land attraction, make sure to notice the address on the mailbox in the old America scene. It reads, “B. Jones RFD #82.” The 82 is significant as it is the year that Epcot officially opened.
9.) Take your time when leaving Epcot at night. One of the best Disney Secrets is one of the most obvious, but also the most easily missed. Look at the ground outside of Innoventions as you pass by the Pin Trading Post/Information Center/ FASTPass+ kiosk for the lights in the ground.
DISCLAIMER: Yes, I know that not all of these are confirmed by Disney and some will claim these to be untrue or different or what have you. It’s all in fun and they are still cool to check out.
