Baby names are something that take a lot of thought and effort in decided just what your children will be called for the rest of their lives. Well, many people have chosen from the list of Disney Princesses to name their newborns, and lately, Elsa has been a name on the rise.
BabyCentre has reported that Elsa has already jumped high up the list of popular baby names for 2014 as it’s already landed at number 88.
It’s obvious that “Frozen” has had a huge impact on just about anyone and everyone around the world, and in so many ways. Last year, Elsa was 528th on the list of most popular girl’s names.
Now, Disney names are not uncommon, but you may not realize just how many children have gotten names from the great company in the past. Let’s take a look at just just how many children have been graced with the name of a Disney Princess in the past.
Ariel
“The Little Mermaid” was released in 1989, and the evidence is in the numbers from the year before and the years after. In 1988, it was the 210th most popular name and in 1991, it jumped to 66th. One in every 500 girls were being named Ariel.
In 2013, “The Little Mermaid” is keeping strong at the age of almost a quarter-century as it was 146th.
Cinderella
One of the most popular Disney Princesses has never ever been a popular name for children in the United States.
Belle
Released in 1991, “Beauty and the Beast” didn’t actually bring up the popularity of Belle. It was at its most popular in 1880 when it was the 90th most popular American girl’s name.
Bella, on the other hand, is very popular.
Jasmine
While Jasmine is becoming more and more popular, it did top out at number 23 in 1993, and that is not long after Disney’s “Aladdin” was released in 1992.
Tiana
While “The Princess and the Frog” has been extremely popular since its release in 2009, it didn’t do a lot to help or harm for the name of the Disney Princess. Tiana peaked in 1995 when it was the 267th most popular name. It dropped for a number of years and shot back up a bit in 2010, but then still, only one in every 2,000 girls were named Tiana
Snow White
Unfortunately, Snow happens to be in the same boat as Cinderella. Never has the name of the original Disney Princess been popular as a baby’s name.
Aurora
Back in 1959 when Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” was released, the name didn’t prove to be too popular for baby girls. Decades later in 2000, Aurora started to catch on and it has continued to get more and more popular. That happens to be the same year that the company started marketing the Disney Princess collection.
In 2013, Aurora was the 145th most popular name with about one in every 1,000 baby girls garnering the name.
Rapunzel
Believe it or not, in 1959, there were nine little girls born and named Rapunzel. From that point on, there have been none, zero, zip-a! Social Security records prove this little fact and even the Disney film “Tangled” couldn’t bring parents to name their kids Rapunzel.
Mulan
Well, one Disney Princess has never received a lot of attention when it comes to naming babies. Released in mid-1998, there were actually no records of any children named Mulan having been born in the United States at that time.
There were 16 by the end of 1998 and it was most popular in 2013 when 27 children were given the name of Mulan.
Pocahontas
Along with Snow White and Cinderella, Pocahontas has never been a name that’s been popular with parents for their children. Released in 1995, “Pocahontas” didn’t help that fact either as it has never landed on the chart of the Top 2,000 names for little girls.
Merida
“Brave” was released in 2012 and the name of the Pixar-Disney Princess has never been quite popular in America, before or after. In that year, 19 Meridas were born but it jumped up to 109 babies in 2013 so maybe there is a trend going now.
I don’t think these facts are correct since my name is Rapunzel and I was born quite awhile after 1959…
You’re name is really Rapunzel? You’re so lucky!
