Disney Developing A Live-Action ‘Dumbo’ Film

DumboThere are all kinds of live-action movies coming from Disney that are based on animated classics, and now there’s another on the way. Variety revealed on July 8, 2014, that a live-action version of “Dumbo” is indeed in development from Disney.

Ehren Kruger, writer for “Transformers: Age of Extinction” has been selected to pen the script.

At this time, there isn’t much known about the film except that it is expected to follow the same story of Disney’s fourth animated film. That being the story of a baby circus elephant who is ridiculed for his giant ears, but he learns to fly through the help of his one true friend, a mouse.

“Dumbo” was released by Disney in 1941 and it followed “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Pinocchio,” and “Fantasia.”

It also has the distinction of being one of the shortest Disney animated films ever. “Dumbo” clocks in at just 64 minutes.

A live-action version of “Cinderella” will be heading to theaters in March of 2015 and there also plans for a live-action “Jungle Book” directed by Jon Favreau and  “Beauty and the Beast” directed by Bill Condon.

Disney had great success with the live-action versions of “Alice In Wonderland” and “Maleficent” so they are hoping to continue it with “Dumbo.”
