As of about a month ago, the changes to the menu of ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort were put into place with mixed reviews. Well, there has been another change that has quietly happened, and a lot of people are not going to be happy about this one either.
The Mixed Greens Salad with a Lilkoi dressing is no longer listed on the ‘Ohana menu, and it actually won’t even be served at all….unless you ask for it.
Yes, when the ‘Ohana menu changes were made, the salad was put into the category of “Starters” with the ‘Ohana Pineapple Coconut Bread.
The salad is still listed on the main ‘Ohana menu page on the official Walt Disney World site, but it won’t be served to you unless you ask for it.
On the evening of Sunday, July 20, 2014, we had dinner at ‘Ohana and noticed the salad wasn’t served to us. Upon looking around, we realized that no tables had it brought to them.
Upon asking the staff at ‘Ohana about the salad and whether it had been taken off the menu, the response was:
“It technically has and it technically hasn’t.”
Upon asking for an explanation, I was told:
“It’s still on the menu, but it won’t be automatically served to guests. It won’t be served unless guests specifically ask for it.”
Mind you, this was information that was not presented to us by our ‘Ohana servers. We had no idea that we could ask for it or that it could be brought to us, but now you know, just in case you really want it.
Upon asking if the salad would be taken off of ‘Ohana’s menu for good, I was told, “We simply don’t know that at this time.”
The biggest change that recently happened was the removal of the chicken skewers from the menu at ‘Ohana. Guests were very upset by this, and apparently, it was taken out on a number of Cast Members at the restaurant.
One Cast Member advised me that he was yelled at, screamed at, and threatened due to the removal of the chicken skewers.
He continued on saying:
“There were a number of reasons for removing the chicken skewers from the menu, but we didn’t expect the backlash. In the past three years, the chicken skewers were the least requested skewer on the menu.”
Sad, we have an ADR there for late August, and I am disappointed in the menu changes. I think the salad may have been removed due to the redundancy of the new lettuce wrappers AND a salad being served. That said, I have no interest in the lettuce wrappers, and have read reviews that they are bland, and not all that great. I am not resistant to change, but sometimes feel the old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies- especially in this situation. I wasn’t happy about the removal of the chicken skewers, but was going anyway because it’s my DH’s favorite restaurant on property. I could make a meal out of the noodles, wings, and salad. Now, I will have to request it and see if I can still get it. I am not holding my breath.
the amount of times I have seen CM take back full un-touched salad bowls from tables i’m not surprised they have stopped giving it out automatically… my son was a cast member at the rose and crown and they had the same thing with the bread rolls so they stopped bringing them out without being asked and they had the same backlash…people feel that they must get everything even if just to waste it some times just so they get the full moneys worth
I was at Ohana’s July of this year and was so disappointed they did not serve the salad and dressing. They also took off the chicken and served a dried up pork skewer. It is the very reason I used to go there and from now on will not eat there any longer. Change is good but this change is terrible.
