Disney has finally given a confirmed release date for the next installment in one of its most famous and successful movie franchises ever. “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” will officially hit theaters on July 7, 2017, and it’s going to be in competition with a number of other big films that summer.
At the current time, “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” has that date all to itself, but it is surrounded by some other big openings.
On July 14, 2017, “Fantastic Four 2” will hit theaters and “Despicable Me 3” will have been released on June 30, 2017.
Original plans called for a summer 2015 release of “Pirates of the Caribbean 5,” but plans changed. Then it was set for summer of 2016, and plans changed again in order to work on the script some more.
It’s no surprise that Disney is continuing on with the POTC franchise as it does nothing but bring in tons of money for the company.
The first four films brought in $3.7 billion while the last installment, “On Stranger Tides,” crossed over $1 billion all on its own.
The official name of the film will be “Pirates of the Caribbean” Dead Men Tell No Tales,” and it will bring back Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.
