The Walt Disney Company had its Q3 2014 conference call on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, and released a lot of information on sales results, earnings, losses, and other such information. Not a whole lot of new stuff was revealed, but there was talk about “Star Wars” and that something is on the horizon.
With “Star Wars: Episode VII” set for a December 2015 release date, there is going to be more coming from Disney as well.
As expected, there are plans for “Star Wars” to head into Disney Parks, but information has been very little so far. At least there was something new announced on Tuesday.
“We’re also developing ideas and designs for a far greater “Star Wars” presence in our parks,” Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger told investors on the company’s quarterly earnings. “We expect to provide details about this sometime next year.”
Iger was asked by someone if Disney has a parks franchise that’s comparable to “Harry Potter” at Universal Studios. He mentioned both the Disney Princesses and “Cars,” and promised that “Star Wars” was actually “going to be just that.”
As for the seventh film in the “Star Wars” franchise, Iger spoke on it as well. He did say that “production is underway” even though there was the hiatus from when Harrison Ford broke his ankle.
“The footage we’ve seen is very, very exciting to us,” Iger said. “I think there’s about 500 days left between now and December 18th, 2015 when the movie comes out. That doesn’t seem like very long.”
So, there is still not a lot known about what will be coming to the Disney Parks in way of “Star Wars,” but at least we know when the information is coming.
Just let it be known that the time is coming from Disney “when we increase ‘Star Wars’ presence, which we will do significantly.”
