A Costume Guide To Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party – Do’s and Don’ts

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is just around the corner, and that’s obvious from the Halloween decorations that are already up all around the Magic Kingdom. A night full of fun, frights, parades, and more awaits anyone that attends. Two of the biggest questions are what should you wear and what can’t you wear?

That’s why you need a handy costume guide.

Costume Guide Disney Halloween

Now, Disney does have some rather strict rules regarding costumes and adults (anyone really over the age of 9) in their theme parks. Simple enough…they aren’t allowed.

When it comes time for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party though, guests (adults and children) are allowed to wear their costumes. There are a few written rules, but some unspoken costume guidelines are in place as well.

First, let’s see what Disney has specifically written on their website.

1.) Guests of all ages may wear costumes only to the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party event; otherwise, costumes are only permitted at Magic Kingdom park for Guests ages 12 and under.

2.) All costumes must adhere to any guidelines as determined solely by Disney.

3.) Please choose costumes that are not obstructive, offensive or violent.

Doctor Disney added: Don’t have sharp objects or material on your costume that cold hurt, poke, or strike others.

4.) Guest’s eyes must be visible at all times.

Seems simple and understandable enough. Here are some other things to remember that are rather unspoken at times, but Disney will let you know about them if need be.

1.) Don’t wear costumes that drag on the ground. That’s just a hazard for other guests and yourself too.

2.) Don’t bring any type of objects that look or resemble weapons – Guns, knives, grenades, etc… This is just a really bad idea no matter where you go.

3.) If you’re dressed as a Disney character, you will not be allowed to take pictures with other guests. This is mostly true if your costume ends up being very similar to the real thing of a character in the park. Seriously, this happens all the time.

In 2014, there was a couple dressed as Cinderella and Prince Charming and they looked great. They were immediately told they could not take pictures with other guests or even stop to pose for pictures.

There is a reason for this is, and it is so that kids don’t get overly confused with more than one in the park at a time. Also, Disney doesn’t want lines randomly forming throughout the park.

4.) Don’t try signing an autograph in costume as a Disney character either. That’s just a one-way ticket out of the park.

——————————————————————————————————-

This may seem like a lot, but it’s really not that bad. There are still so many options for your costumes at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and I’ve seen them every single year. Disney isn’t asking a whole lot, and it’s nothing out of the ordinary either.

Just…if you think you shouldn’t wear your costume or it doesn’t fit into the guidelines, then change it a little or pick something else.

Don’t push it or you run the risk of Disney not allowing you into the park. It’s happened. Remember Tinker Bell?

  1. You are permitted to have your eyes covered, but you must be able to see. 🙂

  2. genuinely curious says

If the cut off age for dress up is normally 9 years old, then i guess we have broken the rules without knowing. My just turned 13 year old spent her last 5 yearly visits dressing up, twice at BBB, which i was told the cut off age for that is 12?? Im confused lol

  3. Can I wear a dress that reaches the ground? It is more Disney bounding but it is full length.
