As reported here last week, the removal of the Sorcerer’s Hat at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is scheduled to begin on Jan. 7, 2015. It is not entirely known just long the removal will take, but things are already getting underway as construction walls have already been put up around all sides of it, but the front.
Upon walking into DHS, the view still looks exactly the same walking down Hollywood Boulevard which means there is still time to get a picture or two, but once you get closer to the hat, you can see the construction walls.
If you grab one of the January 2015 maps for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll notice that the Sorcerer’s Hat has already been removed from it.
For those wondering, the pin store that was located underneath the Sorcerer’s Hat? It won’t be going away completely.
The pin store is going to be relocated to the Sunset Ranch over on Sunset Blvd.
The Sorcerer’s Hat was put in place in 2001 and became the icon for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Before that, the icon switched around between the Great Movie Ride, Tower of Terror, and Earful Tower.
Again, Disney merchandise for 2015 has so far has shown the Earful Tower and Tower of Terror as the icon. With the update and TCM deal coming for the Great Movie Ride, it looks as if a lot of choices are there for when the Sorcerer’s Hat is gone soon.

Just curious….has anyone checked near the Earful Tower to see if there is any construction staging going on there? Just wondering what the chances would be that they would relocate the Earful Tower to the location where the Hat now sits?
