For those that will be going to Walt Disney World later this year, you may have to do without riding one classic attraction. Pirates of the Caribbean is reportedly scheduled to go under a very long refurbishment that could have it closed as long as six months.
A source of mine from the Magic Kingdom advised me of this situation this morning, and WDW Magic has also apparently heard of it.
Word is that Pirates will be closing sometime in the beginning or middle of the summer and running through the rest of the year. There is thought that it could open for the Thanksgiving holiday or the early part of the Christmas season.
This refurbishment is not surprising as a lot of problems have happened in Pirates of the Caribbean over the last year.
The audio-animatronics have often broken down. Boats have taken on water. The mist and Blackbeard effect in the opening cave hasn’t worked regularly in months. That’s not even counting the incident with the guest losing some fingertips and the back rows of boats being roped off often.
Now, the refurbishment has not been officially announced or confirmed by Disney, and it is not on their official list of announced refurbishments either. With that, exact dates are not yet put in place.
Once they are and this is confirmed, then it will be announced on the Doctor Disney site. Remember, refurbishments are always subject to change…especially those not officially in place yet.
