Disney’s Disability Access Service / DAS Going Onto MagicBands This Month

DAS MagicBandsFor those that use the Disability Access Service (DAS) at Walt Disney World, there is a change coming soon. It’s not anything really to the way it works, but how it is used as it will be going digital and put on the MagicBands of Guests instead of being a paper pass.

My Magic Kingdom source has advised me that as of April 30, 2015, the DAS transfer from paper to MagicBands (digital) will begin.

The DAS system with the get return time and come back later will still be exactly the same. The main difference is how it will be used once it goes digital.

Here is how it is currently set to work and what Cast Members are being trained on:

1.) Head to Guest Relations in any park and advise need of DAS – The person that it is needed for will need to have their entire party with them.

2.) The Guest specifically needing the DAS will have their picture taken and name put into the system. That information will also be placed on the MagicBand.

3.) Guests will go to an attraction and have their MagicBand read via the Cast Member’s scanner. That scanner will have the photo and info of the Guest needing the DAS come up for them so CMs can make sure they match.

The scanner will provide a return time for the CM to advise the Guest.

4.) Upon return, the Guest who had the DAS assigned to them MUST scan their MagicBand first and then the rest of their party follow suit. If not done in that order, it won’t register.

Again, the picture and name of the Guest needing the DAS will come up for the Cast Members to make sure of whom is using it.

5.) Enter the attraction.

Per my source, the DAS times can be changed or modified per the scanner that Cast Members have. In their words, “It’s basically the same system…just digital.”

The DAS system is going digital, folks, and it will land on MagicBands as of April 30, 2015. Cast Members are taking classes on it all now to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible.

Remember – Until officially announced by Disney, this is subject to change.
