Lots of news coming out of D23 Expo on its opening day, and now Disney has announced that the next project for the animation studio is a film called Gigantic. It will be a Spain-set take on “Jack & The Beanstalk” helmed by the Tangled co-director with music written by the geniuses behind the music of Frozen.
Nathan Greno co-directed Tangled and the film will be produced by Dorothy McKim of Meet The Robinsons fame. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (both of Frozen) will write the music for Gigantic.
“We want to make the definitive version of ‘Jack And The Beanstalk,'” said Greno.
Greno went on to say that Jack goes up the really tall beanstalk into the clouds and meets up with an 11-year-old giant named Ima (possibly Inma) who he ends up partnering with in a battle against the evil “storm giants.”
“Their world will change forever, and it’s such a great, unique friendship. It has deep, deep, emotion. I think when you read an old Jack and the Beanstalk story, you don’t think it’s a big tearjerker, but we want that. We think the stories that last forever are the ones that hit your emotions.”
As it’s very early, there is no release date or anything in place for Gigantic, but it certainly sounds very cool and exciting.
