It had been rumored for months and months, but then confirmed at D23 Expo in August that a Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant would be coming to Magic Kingdom. The Skipper Canteen is known to be opening “later this year,” but not much else has been known…until now.
So far, Disney hasn’t said a whole lot about this new Disney dining location, but construction at Magic Kingdom is coming along very nicely. Some information is starting to making its way out though. Cast Members are currently being assigned to the Skipper Canteen and their training begins in mid-November.
Here is what we know so far about Skipper Canteen:
- Scheduled to open in “mid-December,” but a soft opening is possible
- Asian, African, and South American-inspired cuisine
- One menu – à la carte style
- Table service for lunch and dinner – Will not be open for breakfast
- Menu prices will not change from lunch to dinner
- Full table-service/sit-down restaurant (Likely one table-service credit, but that remains to be decided)
- The atmosphere will be in the same feel as 50’s Prime Time Cafe and Whispering Canyon.
Looks like Skipper Canteen is going to be full of some corny jokes and good times.
Remember, things can change and have been known to do so. Until the restaurant actually opens, anything can happen.
Thanks to J.C. for the awesome info.
