A sequel to Mary Poppins is actually in talks to be made and Emily Blunt is currently in talks to take on the lead role.
The 1964 Disney film is an absolute classic and one that has never really had a sequel or anything remotely close to it. Yes, there was Saving Mr. Banks which detailed the inception and creation of Mary Poppins, but it was not a prequel or sequel.Rob Marshall is going to be direction the film which is not yet titled.
The sequel to Mary Poppins is going to be set around 20 years after the first film which starred Julie Andrews in the title role and also had Dick van Dyke as her co-star. Cues will be taken from the P.L. Travers’ series.
It has been said that it will still be Depression-era London where the sequel takes place and will be mostly based on the continued line of books from Travers.
Emily Blunt is not cemented in place for the role of Mary Poppins as her schedule hasn’t necessarily allowed for the deal to be done. She is also expecting her second child so that very well could determine if she ends up taking the role or not.
