So, it looks as if there is another remake in the works and this time it will be the 1984 film Splash starring Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks. The tale will be getting a new twist, though, as the gender roles are going to be reversed and the leading mermaid (merman) will be Channing Tatum.
Yes, Tatum will take on the lead role that was originally played by Daryl Hannah while Jillian Bell will play the role that was once held by Tom Hanks.
The remake of Splash will be produced by Imagine’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer along with Reid Carolin, Peter Kieran, and Tatum himself.
For those not aware with the original Splash, it starred Daryl Hannah as a mermaid who happened to find a man (Hanks) she had saved the life of, 20 years earlier. It is then that she falls in love with him and gives him the option of living life as it is or with her under the sea.
There has not been a production start or release date yet set for the remake of Splash, but the gender role reversal is going to happen with the world being able to see what Channing Tatum would look like as a mermaid.

Lately it seem like the only movies Disney has the capabilities to make are either a switched gender rehash of an older movie or a live action movie of an animated feature. Where the heck did the IMAGINATION go? Oh! I know…we make a movie on Marvel Comic characters that don’t hold true to the origin of the character. Well! I’ll give you credit that SOME characters are close to their origin. But not all. Star Wars has been revived with new characters and adventures. Terrific. I guess we can expect Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto in their own live action movie soon? Why not! It seems to fall right into the existing pattern of your new releases. I won’t be seeing or buying live action versions of Animated features. Why mess with the master’s work?
