Disney is continuing to move forward with their live-action versions of animated classics, and the next one has now been revealed as The Little Mermaid. Making things already very legit is the fact that Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will work together on the music for it.
Yes, you have read that correctly. The iconic Menken will work with Miranda, of Hamilton fame, on the music for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid. Miranda wrote the music for Disney’s next animated film Moana which is due out later this year.
Deadline reports that the plan is for the soundtrack to be a mix of new music and pre-existing songs from the classic was co-composed by Menken. On that very film alone, Menken ended up winning two Academy Awards.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is truly developing a big-time relationship with Disney due to his work on Moana and he will also star in Mary Poppins Returns.
Details are still being put together for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid. but one thing is 100 percent certain and the music will be phenomenal. Miranda’s exact involvement isn’t entirely known, but he will be there to supervise the story which will have Disney hiring a screenwriter soon.
Let it be known that The Little Mermaid has a big part of Miranda’s heart as his son is even named Sebastian.
So, with this film, Disney’s film schedule is jam-packed with Beauty and the Beast, Maleficent 2, Mary Poppins Returns, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise, Tinker Bell, Cruella, The Jungle Book 2, and a whole host of others.
