Last month, two brand new Grevy’s Zebra Foals were born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and it was a huge day for everyone. Now, those young zebra foals are ready to head out into the “wild” and they have now made their debut in their new homes.
Their names are Zalika and Youka and guests can visit them over on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.
From the Disney Parks Blog:
The zebra animal care team has noticed that Laylee’s foal Youka is more curious and independent, while Zuri’s foal Zalika is a bit bashful. Zebras learn by watching, so the foals are learning a lot by mimicking their moms. For example, the foals watch their moms chew hay, so they try to do it, too. The pair also try to copy their moms when they bathe themselves in dust. Each day brings new learnings as the foals continue to grow and thrive.
Both Laylee and Zuri are seen as excellent mothers for their young zebra foals, but Zuri likes to stay a bit closer to Zalika. Youka is following in the “curious and outgoing” footsteps of her mother Laylee.
