It is no surprise that there Universal Orlando has been thinking about a fourth theme park that could possibly make them a week-long vacation destination. On Thursday, there was a conference call with Comcast which had executives actually hint at a name for a fourth gate and it is quite magical.
During the call, an analyst asked about a patent application filed just last month which was for the name of “Fantastic Worlds.” Not much was revealed on the application, but it did state that it was for “entertainment services in the nature of amusement park and them park services.”
When presented with this information and asked if this was any indication that there could be a fourth gate built at Universal Orlando, a Comcast executive actually answered this one.
“We are looking at it. We love the theme park business. It’s one of our best, most consistent businesses.
We think we have a lot of very long runway. Another gate in Florida would have the advantage of turning Florida from a two- or three-day destination to potentially a week-long destination. We think that would be attractive.”
Universal Orlando already has Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and the recently opened water park Volcano Bay. Even with those three parks, that number is still only half of what Walt Disney World has in Central Florida, but Comcast knows they need to keep the competition going.
“They are upping the game. We’re number two, but we’re moving strong.”
As Universal Orlando continues to buy additional land in the surrounding area. many have just thought they were expanding their current parks. It is obvious now that “Fantastic Worlds” could end up being a home for Nintendo-themed attractions or more sections for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
For now, nothing is totally set in stone, but it is an exciting time in the Central Florida world and land of theme parks.
