A little over a week ago, writer and director James Gunn was fired from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise for insensitive tweets that were almost a decade old. While no-one is condoning his words, Gunn has already owned up to those tweets and apologized for them, but they still ended up costing him his job.
With that, a little bit of time has passed, and some have not forgotten about their Marvel leader and friend. That is why Chris Pratt and the entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy has come together to show their support and call for Gunn to be reinstated.
Chris Pratt and the other main members of the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 did not want the world to think they weren’t supportive. With that, they have come together to release an open letter to Disney and Marvel in the hope of having Gunn rehired.

As you can see, Pratt (Star-Lord) signed the letter with other stars of the Marvel Studios’ hit, and it is hard to argue with the talent and pull of:
- Bradley Cooper – Rocket Raccoon
- Zoe Saldana – Gamora
- Michael Rooker – Yondu
- Dave Bautista – Drax
- Karen Gillian – Nebula
- Vin Diesel – Groot
- Pom Klementieff – Mantis
- Sean Gunn
The petition referenced in the letter by Pratt is one that has been created on Change.org to reinstate James Gunn. Since his firing on July 20, 2018, the petition has registered more than 342,000 signatures and continues to grow in hopes of having him re-hired.
It is not known what kind of effect the petition or letter from the cast may on Disney’s decision to fire James Gunn, but it may make think twice about it. Disney California Adventure already has a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction and one is currently being built at Epcot…so, it’s not like this franchise isn’t profitable.
This is going to be a matter of – is the past of James Gunn really something that should come back to haunt him yet again…even after he has already apologized for it?

Thank you Disney and I hope you stand firm. I agree that “there is little due process in the court of public opinion”; however, if you are liberal, have enough money, and enough friends with power, you are never held accountable for your actions/words. You throw out a few words of apology or defense and nothing happens. For example, Kathy Griffin; Peter Fonda; Tom Arnold; Mathew Modine (Actor Matthew Modine says “Theodore Roosevelt would rip off President Trump’s head “and shit down his neck.”; etc, etc. It is just business as usual. I am tired of the hypocrisy from the left and am thankful for Disney’s decision. Remember, Disney is all about children and Gunn’s comments and connection with a known pedifile are sickening.
OMG! Would President Trump get the same sort? NO! Hypocrites!!!
Good on them, hopefully they will unite and walk if he isn’t re-hired, without them there is no 3rd movie.
Disney knew exactly what they were getting when they hired someone who made his name making “Shock-sploitation” movies and had the reputation and social media presence to go with it. He’s changed, he’s apologised, it’s time to get over it and let him go about his business. Disney are making themselves look very foolish, firing someone on supposed “moral grounds” for tweets sent years ago. yet enabling John Lasseter to remain an employee for as long as possible despite his reputation for sexually harassing their own employees on their property.
