The trend of Disney remaking their animated classics into live-action movies is continuing with Mulan which is set for release in spring of 2020. Now, production is officially underway on the sure-to-be-epic film and it has been signaled by the release of the first image.
Disney’s animated classic was released in 1998 and the live-action remake tells the tale of a brave and heroic young woman who poses as a man in order to battle the invaders from the north who are attacking China. Taking the place of her very ill father to serve in the Imperial Army, and shows the world that anyone can become a legendary warrior.
The original starred Ming-Na Wen in the lead role and Eddie Murphy provided the voice for the lovable dragon Mushu. In the live-action remake of Mulan, Liu Yifei takes on the title role and this first image shows she truly brings the iconic character to life.
Mulan also stars Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Yoson An, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Nelson Lee, Jet Li, Chen Pei-Pei, Chum Ehelepola, and Gong Li. Filming is set to take place in numerous locations around China and New Zealand.
Mulan is set to hit theaters on March 27, 2020.
