When you go to Walt Disney World, you expect to have some good food, enjoy fantastic attractions, and have a lot of fun. For some of us, though, there is the possibility that you could go home with some legitimate magic and maybe, even a kidney.
Adam Hedrick went on a recent trip with his family to Walt Disney World and when he went, he was in desperate need of a kidney. He knew that he didn’t have much time left for the transplant, and that is why his daughters made him a shirt.
The shirt made for him simply said “I need a kidney” on it in bold lettering. In addition to that, the back of the shirt had his blood type and cell phone number with the idea that someone may reach out to him.
It was a long shot, but they simply had to take the chance.
One night, the Hedrick family went to get some food when Adam had on his shirt and they met a cashier Cast Member named Steven Crow.
“I saw his shirt and thought, OK, that’s kinda cool… I knew from donating blood previously that I was O+. When I saw that, I kinda had a gut feeling that I should help,” said Crow.
That was when Steven decided he could do something to help.

Steven didn’t let Adam or his family know anything right away, but he decided to start calling around to see how the donation process worked. Once he found that out, he got it started and doctors found out that the two men were a perfect match for the kidney transplant.
“The day we got the news. It was literally like the Lord put his hand on me and took all the stress away,” said Hedrick’s wife, Shawna.
This past Tuesday, Steven and Adam had their surgeries and the transplant was completed. Steven left the hospital on Thursday and Adam was set to stay a little while longer to recover.
One never knows what kind of magic will come your way when visiting Walt Disney World…whether it’s pixie dust or a kidney.
