Disneyland Resort Officially Cancels All Plans For Fourth On-Site Hotel

After a lot of controversy and a number of discussions, Disney has now officially cancelled all plans for a fourth on-site hotel at Disneyland Resort. The massive hotel which was set to be built on the west end of Downtown Disney is no longer happening.

Liz Jaeger is a spokesperson for Disneyland Resort and released a statement regarding the situation.

“We’ve taken the time to review the economics of our proposed Four Diamond hotel for Anaheim and have made the final decision to cancel the project. While this is disappointing for many, the conditions and agreements that stimulated this investment in Anaheim no longer exist and we must, therefore, adjust our long-term investment strategy.”

Back in mid-August, the new mega hotel at Disneyland Resort was put on hold after the city of Anaheim eliminated a tax rebate agreement that would have saved Disney $267 million over a 20-year period. The city said this agreement was said to be null and void by Disney after chose to move the location of the resort hotel to take advantage of that tax break.

On that far-end side of Downtown Disney, numerous locations – Rainforest Cafe, Earl of Sandwich, AMC Theatres, ESPN Zone – had closed down due to the start of construction looming. Now, Earl of Sandwich recently reopened, but it is not yet known what will happen with the other locations at Disneyland Resort.
