According to Deadline, the huge franchise starring Johnny Depp is about to head in a different direction. Walt Disney Studios has met with the writing duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick for early talks to write the script for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Reese and Wernick are the writers behind both Deadpool films as well as Zombieland.

It is not known if the new version of Pirates of the Caribbean will bring back Depp or Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley or anyone who has been a part of the franchise already. Jerry Bruckheimer is still attached as producer and will continue to lead it forward.

Over the course of the last 14 years, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has brought in more than $4.5 billion to Disney. They’re not ready to yet let things set sail into the sunset, but they are ready for a fresh look on things.
