After many years, a sequel to Mary Poppins was finally released from Disney, and it is anything but a failure. Mary Poppins Returns has actually been so successful in its first month of release that Disney is already in the “early stages” of a sequel to the sequel.
Mary Poppins Returns has already brought in more than $260 million at the worldwide box office since its release on December 19, 2018. That kind of success is a sure sign that the franchise isn’t done, and director Rob Marshall can confirm that something is already in the works.
“It is the early stages, but I will say right now that there were eight books, so, there’s a lot of great material still to mine. That’s what we worked from…those incredible books of P.L. Travers. So, you know…”
Now, nothing is yet confirmed and anything is possible to happen, but knowing that a sequel to Mary Poppins Returns is already in the works is not too surprising.
