David Henry Hwang is set to pen the script with Josh Gad (yes, Olaf) in place to produce The Hunchback of Notre Dame along with Mandeville Films. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are attached to write the music for the film.

This remake will take storyline portions from the original novel of Victor Hugo along with Disney’s 1996 animated classic. It is not going to include anything from the stage production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but it will be a musical.

In the story, a hunchback named Quasimodo is trapped all alone with no-one else in his life as he lives out life as the bell-ringer of Notre Dame in Paris. It will be interesting to see how the villainous Frollo is presented in the remake.
