Remember late last year when Kermit the Frog said there was a “big surprise” coming from The Muppets in 2019? Well, he may not have had any clue what it was at the time, but we may now know that a new TV show revival is coming with our favorite band of misfits.
Back in 2015, The Muppets had an attempt at coming back to television after 17 years off the air, but it didn’t last long on ABC. As a matter of fact, it had only one season before being cancelled, and it really wasn’t bad at all.
Unfortunately, that was the end of their run, but it looks like they’re going to get another shot.
Thanks to Disney+, the new streaming service coming sometime later this year, The Muppets are apparently getting a revival. According to The Splash Report, the Muppets are heading to Disney+ in a new series from Josh Gad (Olaf in Disney’s Frozen) and the creators of Once Upon A Time – Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis.
The show is reportedly going to be called Muppets Live Another Day and will actually pick up right after the events of The Muppets Take Manhattan…a movie from 1984. Kermit has broken up the gang, but they all come together again when Rowlf mysteriously goes missing.
Old-school Muppet fans know just how awesome that movie is, and it will be interesting to see how Disney handles the ending.
If all of this holds true, Muppets Live Another Day should hit Disney+ sometime in 2020.
