People Are Wondering If Goofy Is A Dog Or A Cow – Why Is This Even Being Discussed?

If you’re in any of the Disney groups on Facebook, such as I’m So Disney…, there are a number of interesting conversations that take place. One that has been running wild over the last month or two is wondering if Goofy is a cow or a dog.

Sure, this may be an interesting and stimulating topic…but it isn’t. There is actually no reason for this conversation to happen at all and here’s why.

Goofy is a D-O-G!

We’ve seen some really strange conversations take place in Facebook groups and on Twitter and everything else. Some of them simply never need to happen, and this is most certainly one of them.

People are polling others. Some are exclaiming that they’ve been wrong their entire lives and that they have just learned that Goofy is a cow. Well, I’ve got something to tell you and it’s that you were right all along and are simply wrong now if you believe Goofy is a cow.

First of all, I know not everyone knows every single thing about Disney and some may really have no clue that Goofy is a dog. There are those, though, who you are sure…know better, but for some reason, they are playing into this whole madness.

History of the Goof

In May of 1932, Goofy made his official debut, but he wasn’t yet known as Goofy. In a cartoon short called Mickey’s Revue, a character named Dippy Dawg appeared in the crowd and at the time, no-one knew who he would go on to be.

Look…there he is.

Months later, Dippy Dawg would be made younger and he’d also receive a different name and go by…Goofy. If this is not enough of a reason to believe that Goofy is a dog, then, I really don’t know what it.

Still, this is ancient history to many people and not everyone knows this amount of detail, so, let’s carry on.

Here is the cause for confusion…for some reason

Clarabelle Cow

For those who have watched Mickey Mouse Works or House of Moouse or a number of other shows, Goofy sometimes displays a crush on Clarabelle Cow. At times, they have even appeared to be dating even though Clarabelle was engaged to Horace Horsecollar all those years ago.

It is for this relationship reason that some people think Goofy is a cow…and it’s because Clarabelle is an obvious cow. How much sense does that make? Not much or it would mean that every single person who dates someone else is exactly the same.

Pluto

Everyone knows and agrees that Pluto is a dog, but they have doubts about Goofy. Pluto walks on all fours, wears a collar, and doesn’t speak. Goofy walks upright, wears clothing, and talks like everyone else around him.

The thing is, Goofy is an anthropomorphic dog which means he has the attribution of human traits, emotions, and intentions, but he isn’t actually a human.

For some reason, people have even gone as far as to say that The Walt Disney Company isn’t telling anyone that Goofy is actually a species of Aberdeen-Angus Cattle which is so ridiculous and absurd that it’s quite…well, goofy.

In closing…ya goofs

Don’t worry about being “today years old” when you learned Goofy is a dog. Don’t wonder how long you were going to be led astray by realizing Goofy isn’t a dog. All of that stuff isn’t true and you can let your friends know that not everything you read on the Internet is the truth, but this next statement most certainly is…

………………………….Goofy is a dog.
