Many people often wonder why height requirements are in place for attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Well, they are there for safety reasons, but not everyone always believes that to be true. In a scary situation, Chris Hemsworth (Thor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) found that out the hard way.
On last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, four members of the cast for Avengers: Endgame were appearing to promote the film. Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Hemsworth were there to talk about the movie and a lot of other things.
At one point, Hemsworth began telling a story from a few years ago, of how he took his now 6-year-old daughter India to Disney California Adventure. They wanted to go on the Tower of Terror (now Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout), but his daughter was too short to ride.
That is when Hemsworth came up with a plan and it was to stuff Snickers candy bars into her shoes to make her appear taller. Well, it worked and they were able to get on the attraction together and ride it.
Johansson interjected with, “Wildly irresponsible.” Hemsworth then said, “It gets worse.”
Hemsworth went on to say that all seemed fine and his daughter was strapped in, but that is when things went wrong.
“We’re at the top and I’m looking at her and she’s strapped in and the seat is massive on her and I’m like ‘We beat the system, honey!'”
As the attraction dropped, India began to rise into the air as she was too small for the restraints to hold her down along with everyone else. At that point, Hemsworth had to quickly grab her and hold onto her for the duration of the ride to make sure she stayed safe. While he said he was her hero, he also wanted everyone to know something important.
“Maybe there’s a reason that there’s a height…size,” Hemsworth went on to say before Robert Downey Jr. chimed in with “Maybe?!”
Hemsworth said, “So, don’t do that. Don’t do that! She’s fine! She’s well.”
Just remember that when visiting Walt Disney World or Disneyland or any theme park around the world, the height requirements are in place for a reason.
