Bob Iger is the CEO of The Walt Disney Company and was supposed to retire a few years ago, but his contract has been extended on a couple of occasions. Hot on the heels of all the news for the new Disney+ streaming service, Iger has once again addressed his plans for stepping down as the Disney CEO.
Years ago, it was said that Bob Iger was going to step down as CEO of The Walt Disney Company and retire. Disney convinced him to stay on and then again, he extended his stay once the 21st Century Fox acquisition talks began.
Now, though, he is sticking to his plans and will be leaving once his contract expires at the end of 2021.
“I’m expecting my contract to expire at the end of 2021. And I was going to say ‘and this time I mean it,’ but I’ve said it before. I’ve been CEO since October of 2005 and as I’ve said many times, there’s a time for everything and 2021 will be the time for me to finally step down.”
Iger is going to remain with Disney through the next two years and remain the head exec of the company.
“I’ve been engaged with the board for quite some time and there’s discussion about a succession and they’ve been engaged in a succession process. And we continue to feel that they will be able to identify my successor on a timely enough basis so this company has smooth transition.”
As of now, there is no concrete word on who will replace Bob Iger as the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, but some names are already being thrown around. Two of those who are rumored as possible Iger replacements are 58-year-old Robert Chapek who is the head of Disney Parks and 55-year-old Kevin Mayer who heads Disney’s strategy department.
