As should have been expected, Universal Orlando Resort is delaying construction of its fourth park. Due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, work on Epic Universe has been put on hold.
Originally scheduled to open sometime in 2023, it is not yet known if that schedule will keep. All that is known at this time is that construction work on the fourth park has been put on hold and delayed.
Last month, Universal Parks & Resorts chairman Tom Williams said that all construction projects around the globe remained active. Due to the revenue hit that has come about due to the pandemic, those projects have now been put on hold.
“This is a moment in time; and when it passes, I am very confident that the decisions we are making now will enable us to emerge from this crisis as a healthy, strong company that is well positioned to continue to grow and succeed,” Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said in a statement.
As of this writing, the parks of Universal remain closed and it is not yet known when they will reopen.
