The eyes of the world are often times on the state of Florida and its number of COVID-19 cases. According to the Orange County Health Department, there are no direct ties to the reopening of theme parks and the coronavirus outbreaks.
On Monday afternoon, a press conference was held and led by Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings. At one point, Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino gave detailed information and fielded some questions.
A question poised to Dr. Pino asked whether the spread of the virus had to do with theme parks reopening. Mike Schneider of the Associated Press shot forth this question.
“Now that all Disney theme parks are opened, have there been any reports of virus spread…either coming from workers or visitors? Can you provide the same status update for Universal (Orlando) and SeaWorld?”
Dr. Pino responded by saying that there is no true connection to the increase in COVID-19 cases and the reopening of the theme parks.
“Outbreaks? No. We have had isolated individuals that have become positive. Now, remember, we rely on the data that is provided by individuals. So, it is self-reported. So someone could lie to us about where they were, where they live, or what the situation may be. So having that in consideration, we haven’t seen any large amounts or numbers of positive cases coming with tags that identify them to any of the parks.”
Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld, and LEGO Land have all been closely monitoring the situation. They are continuing to listen to health and safety officials while also advancing their measures.
